About Community Counselling Service (Kent)

We are a group of committed, professionally qualified counsellors who have decades of experience between us. We are all local people who care for the community.  We are a not for profit organisation and all of our counsellors work on a voluntary basis.

The service is available to everybody in the area, so if you can travel to Canterbury then we are available to help and support you in your time of need. Please call us for an informal discussion or make an appointment to discuss how we can best help you.

What is counselling?

The purpose of counselling is to assist people to make beneficial changes to their lives.  We can assist you to look at all areas of your life gaining a different perspective and looking at areas that may benefit from change. Options can then be considered and implemented for effective change and growth.

What happens in a counselling session?

You and your counsellor will meet face to face, usually once a week, for 50 minutes, for initially 6 weeks, to work through issues which are causing you concern. We are in the fortunate position to be able to offer short, medium and long term counselling to meet your needs.

Will it be treated as confidential?

All of our counsellors are either members of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) or the British Psychological Society (BPS) and work within an ethical framework for good practice.  Among other things this ensures that the counselling process is confidential. Copies of the Ethical Framework are available on request.

Will I have to pay?

The counselling service rates are responsive to our client’s ability to pay and we will endeavour to provide rates which are affordable to you even if you are on a pension or are not in paid employment.

How will I know if counselling is right for me?

Counselling is open to everyone regardless of age, sex, background or religion. An initial assessment will help you decide if it may be beneficial to you.
