Accessible Counselling for the Community

Community Counselling Service (CCS) is an independent, not-for-profit company of volunteer counsellors based in Canterbury. Our mission is to provide affordable and accessible counselling to adults in the Canterbury district.

We offer the opportunity to explore difficulties in a longer term counselling engagement, up to a maximum of 46 sessions, as it is our experience that clients often present with issues which require longer term work.

You will be offered weekly sessions, meeting with your counsellor for 50 minutes each session. You will be listened to in a non-judgemental way and together with your counsellor you will examine the difficulties you are facing and explore your feelings, thoughts and behaviours in a safe and confidential environment.

Please click on the ‘About Us’ link for further information; click on ‘Contact Us’ if you would like to get in touch about our counselling services.  In an emergency, please see our emergency ‘out of hours’ page.

Despite being on the waiting list for over a year, I love the team and my therapist is brilliant. Been working with her for the past year - and definitely been making progress in tackling my mental health issues.

I was recommended to Community Counselling Service. I'm so glad I was. For some time I've been struggling with my mental health. I've recently had my assessment & then I will be matched with the correct councillor whose right for me. I look forward to hearing from them. They are very professional.

I love it there. Very positive people. Very nice atmosphere. And a lot of books in the waiting area.
